Tax Compliance

Tax Returns

We prepare Tax Returns for individuals, Trusts, Companies and Charities to ease the burden so that you may concentrate upon matters more important to you in your personal and business life.

Whilst our work is mainly undertaken using information technology, we never cease to consider the individual needs of our clients and their personal financial aspirations. In accordance with the general trend, most Tax Returns are submitted electronically although paper versions are, generally, produced for review and approval by our clients. Electronic submission, generally, ensures a prompter response from HM Revenue & Customs and avoids the tighter deadlines that apply to paper version submissions.

As part of our compliance function, we calculate the resultant tax payable in order that our clients can budget for upcoming fiscal liabilities. Naturally, we ensure that our clients pay no more than the correct amount of tax based upon the entries reported on their Tax Returns.

Maintenance of records

We are, naturally, dependent upon our clients providing us with complete and accurate data in a timely manner and new penalty provisions recently announced by HM Revenue & Customs makes this even more relevant as the quality of the records maintained by the client will be taken into account in establishing the level of penalty to be imposed in cases of failure to meet the full tax liability.

We are happy to make recommendations upon methods of maintaining adequate records.

Tax enquiries

Whilst we attempt to avert the likelihood of HM Revenue & Customs raising enquiries into the Tax Returns of our clients, there is no doubt that such enquiries are generally becoming more frequent due to HM Revenue & Customs targeting resources to this method of raising further tax revenues. Tax enquiries can be very stressful and burdensome in terms of devoting time to providing the evidence requested by HM Revenue & Customs. We handle tax enquiries upon behalf of our clients as well for others for whom we do not normally handle taxation matters.

We can provide a competitive quote for insuring against the professional costs that arise from handling an enquiry into Tax Returns by HM Revenue & Customs.

ACTION REQUIRED BY 30TH NOVEMBER 2009 – New Offshore Disclosure Opportunity

We are currently engaged in making reports to HM Revenue & Customs of non-disclosed offshore income and gains under the recently launched Offshore Disclosure Opportunity. We dealt with similar reports under the previous facility. This enables UK taxpayers to minimise the possibility of prosecution and limit the degree of penalty that will be imposed by HM Revenue & Customs. Failure to report under the current Opportunity will be treated very unfavourably should HM Revenue & Customs subsequently take steps to recover tax due upon non-UK source income and gains of which they have independently been made aware of.
